Move a licence to another computer

A licence is active on one computer at a time. Move it over the cable in two clicks, or enter your code on the new computer if the old one isn’t connected.

Move it over the cable

With both computers connected:

  1. On the licensed computer, open the main window.
  2. In the License section, open the ⋯ menu and choose Move License to and the other computer’s name.
  3. Confirm. The other computer becomes the licensed one, without typing your code.

You can also choose Move License to… from the ⋯ menu in the other computer’s window.

Only one computer needs to be online. The move finishes with the licence server the next time either one is.

The License section’s ⋯ menu in the main window, with Move License to Windows Desktop… (Mac)
The License section’s ⋯ menu in the main window, with Move License to Windows Desktop… (Windows)
The License section’s ⋯ menu in the main window, with Move License to Windows Desktop… (Linux)

Move it without the cable

  1. On the old computer, in the License section’s ⋯ menu, choose Remove License from This Computer… and confirm.
  2. On the new computer, enter your licence code in the License section and click Activate.

Both steps need the internet. Your code is in your purchase email.

If you no longer have the old computer

Enter your code on the new computer. DirectConnect shows Active on and the old computer’s name. Click Use It Here Instead and confirm.

The old computer stops using the licence the next time it renews: within 7 days if it’s online, or 30 days if it stays offline.

You can do this 3 times in 90 days per licence. After that, contact us to move it.

Licences for several computers

Each licence code activates one computer at a time. A licensed computer covers any computer it’s connected to, so a pair needs only one licence. See Licensing.
