DirectConnect

Terms of sale and licence agreement

These terms cover buying a DirectConnect licence and using the app. By installing, using or buying DirectConnect, you agree to them.

Effective 8 October 2026. In these terms, “we” and “us” means DirectConnect, based in New Zealand, and “you” means the person or organisation using or buying it. If you accept for an organisation, you confirm you can bind it to these terms.

Your licence

We give you a non-exclusive right to install and use DirectConnect under these terms. We keep ownership of the software; you buy a licence to use it, not the software itself.

  • Each licence is active on one computer at a time.
  • Any computer connected to a licensed computer can use DirectConnect with it, without its own licence.
  • You can move a licence between your computers as Move a licence to another computer describes.
  • Each computer can start one free 14-day trial.
  • A licence covers updates for the version you buy. A future major version may be a paid upgrade, and your version keeps working if you don’t upgrade.

The licensed computer needs to reach our licence server at least once every 30 days. Licensing explains how this works.

What you can’t do

  • Share, sell, rent or publish your licence codes.
  • Work around or disable the licence or trial checks.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile or modify DirectConnect, except where the law or an open-source licence allows it.
  • Use DirectConnect to break the law or to reach files you aren’t allowed to access.

DirectConnect includes open-source software under its own licences. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences, including the right to modify and replace the LGPL libraries. See Open-source software.

Buying a licence

The price of a licence depends on your country, and checkout shows it before you pay. You pay once, in your local currency where we offer one, or in US dollars. You can buy up to 100 licences in one order. Stripe takes the payment; your bank may add a currency conversion fee. We email your licence codes to the address you give at checkout after the payment goes through.

Lower regional prices are for buyers in those countries. If an order at a regional price is paid with a card from another country, we may refund it instead of issuing licences.

You need to give a working email address. If your codes don’t arrive, email [email protected].

Refunds

If DirectConnect doesn’t work for you, email us within 30 days of buying and we’ll refund you in full. Send it from the address you bought with, or include your order’s email address. We refund to the card you paid with, and the refunded licences stop working.

We may refuse a refund if a licence code has been shared or the refund policy is being abused, for example by repeated buying and refunding.

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms limits rights that the law gives you and that can’t be excluded by agreement. If you buy as a consumer in New Zealand, these include your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. If you buy as a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you keep the rights your local law gives you.

If you buy DirectConnect for a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 doesn’t apply, and you agree it’s fair and reasonable that it doesn’t.

Your files

DirectConnect reads, writes and copies files on the computers you connect. You decide what each computer shares, and you’re responsible for the files you share or receive. Keep a backup of anything you can’t afford to lose before you move or change it.

Warranty

We work to keep DirectConnect reliable and fix problems we find. To the extent the law allows, we provide DirectConnect “as is”, without any warranty that it’s free of errors, works with every computer, cable or setup, or meets your needs. We don’t give warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement, except where the law doesn’t let us exclude them.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • We aren’t liable for lost or damaged data, lost profits, lost business or any indirect or consequential loss.
  • Our total liability to you for any claim about DirectConnect is limited to what you paid us for your licences in the 12 months before the claim.

These limits don’t apply to liability that the law doesn’t let us limit, such as for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Ending the licence

You can stop using DirectConnect and remove it at any time. If you break these terms, we may stop your licence working after telling you why. The sections on warranty, liability and law continue after a licence ends.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms for new versions or new orders. We post the new terms on this page with a new effective date. The terms you agreed to when you bought continue to apply to that order unless you agree to the new ones.

Law and disputes

New Zealand law governs these terms, and the courts of New Zealand can hear disputes about them. If you’re a consumer, you can also use the courts and the consumer protections of the country you live in.

If you have a problem, email [email protected] first. Most problems are faster to fix that way.
