Then, on the other computer

Both computers need DirectConnect. On the second one, open directconnect.app/download and install it there too. It is free to run on the other computer; one licence covers both after the trial.

Before you plug in

Both computers need Thunderbolt 3 or newer, or USB4 ports, and a Thunderbolt or USB-C data cable. Charging-only cables don’t carry the connection. See the requirements if you’re not sure what you have.

What’s new

Once installed, DirectConnect keeps itself up to date. You don’t need to download it again.

Version 1.0.1

  • Mac: DirectConnect updates itself. It checks once a day and asks before installing. To check now, choose DirectConnect > Check for Updates…
  • Linux: The .deb and .rpm packages add DirectConnect’s software repository, so updates arrive with your system’s other updates.
  • If you installed 1.0.0 from the Mac disk image, the .deb or the .rpm, download this version once by hand. The AppImage updates itself.

Version 1.0.0

  • Mac, Linux: First release. Plug two computers together with a Thunderbolt or USB4 cable and each one’s shared folder appears as a drive on the other.
